Born in Tokyo just before the turn of the millennium, ASTMA is a DJ/producer who extracts the most experimental essences of dance music. Their sound is defined by a dense, obsidian palette - fusing high-pressure low ends with intricate rhythmic patterns that traverse noise, hard techno, and bass. Utilizing up to four channels, ASTMA masterfully layers tracks to construct a sonic atmosphere where two opposing forces collide: the solemn and the hedonistic.

ASTMA is the visionary behind mortal-coil, a signature open-to-last series at Kagurane, and Kera-kai (鉧塊), a project launched at WWWβ in September 2024 dedicated to the resurgence of IDM.

Beyond their consistent presence in Japan’s underground, ASTMA has expanded their reach internationally, including a notable performance at vurt. in Seoul. Their recorded output includes a mix for the Kitakyushu-based label Undulate, while their SoundCloud serves as a laboratory for ongoing explorations into ambient and broad-spectrum experimental music.
